After terminating its deal with a former software company that couldn’t fix bugs for students using the system, Rogue Community College appears poised to select a successor.

The RCC issued an “Intent to Award” notice on September 16 with Jenzabar, a Boston-based company that provides software solutions to higher education institutions. The company is the apparent choice over Ellucian, a Virginia-based company that also submitted a proposal to the RCC.

Jenzabar is now entering a seven-day ‘protest period’, but Julie Raefield, the RCC’s public information officer, said this week the company is unlikely to face much objection.

“Our consultants, the Government Finance Officers Association, will assist the RCC with the scope of work and contract negotiations beginning late next week,” Raefield wrote. “There is no additional information to share at this time.”

Jenzabar, founded in 1998, has contracts with over 1,300 campuses. Its software products focus on facets of higher education such as registration, student information and e-learning. It is unclear which suite of RCC platforms could use.

The likely award of the contract to Jenzabar would cap a series of events for RCC and its relationship with software vendors.

Moving into the early 2020s from an outdated provider, RCC contracted with Florida-based Campus Nexus – later called Anthology – for a suite of online student services. When the company was unable to fix bugs in the system, RCC and Anthology agreed that the school would receive an $850,000 refund from the company.
