PODCAST: Food Security Consultant on Challenges
In the gargantuan world of food production, Vincennes native Jennifer Crandall has found her footing helping small and medium-sized businesses compete. With over 20 years of experience in commerce, she started her own food safety consultancy, Safe Food En Route.
On this week’s episode of the Ag+Bio+Science podcast, AgriNovus Indiana CEO Mitch Frazier talks to Crandall about food safety, the supply chain and the ever-changing face of government oversight of the food sector.
Armed with a degree in food science from Purdue University, Crandall spent the next two decades in the food industry. She worked for eight years in dairy manufacturing and 12 years in the Kroger offices. Along with Kroger, Crandall was heavily involved in ensuring that Kroger-owned manufacturers’ suppliers complied with food safety regulations.
“Kroger laid a huge foundation, and I give a lot of credit to my career and my knowledge for what I learned while I was there,” Crandall said. “I spent most of my time around private label manufacturing. I supported them on the raw materials side.
Crandall has used its expertise and acquired knowledge to help develop software to improve ingredient and food product audits.
