Respiratory consultant specializing in cystic fibrosis and complex lung infections at Barts Health NHS Trust
We are delighted to offer a highly motivated and ambitious individual the opportunity to join our dynamic Respiratory Medicine service based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, home to specialist respiratory services for Barts Health NHS Trust, including four specially commissioned services by the NHSE.
The successful candidate will join an experienced multidisciplinary team that provides care for adults with cystic fibrosis (CF) and manages patients with non-CF bronchiectasis and complex lung infections. The department works closely with the Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis departments of the Royal London Hospital.
The unit is a regional referral center for East London and Essex. The patient cohort is rapidly growing both in size, diversity and complexity. The CF Center is actively involved in clinical research and is a member of the Pan-London Clinical Trials Accelerator Platform.
This position would be attractive to candidates with experience in cystic fibrosis or expertise in pulmonary infection and an ambition to work in cystic fibrosis.
Main duties of the position
To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive specialist respiratory medicine service at Barts Health NHS Trust.
Work with Dr. Danie Watson, Dr. Nadia Shafi and the multidisciplinary CF team to provide comprehensive multidisciplinary care for adults with cystic fibrosis in accordance with the National Service Specification for CF Specialist Commissioning . There is also a commitment to the care of patients with non-CF bronchiectasis and chronic or complex lung infection. These functions are based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
Provide evidence-based care to all inpatients and outpatients.
Comply with clinical and quality standards at all times.
Liaise effectively and in a timely manner with GPs, Community Services and all healthcare agencies and work collaboratively in East London as required.
Maintain and promote teamwork and multidisciplinary work in other relevant specialties, in close collaboration with consulting medical staff.
Participate fully in the management of the department and liaise closely with the General Manager and the Clinical Director.
Play an active role in teaching and training within the department and trust at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Ongoing responsibility for patient care under his/her care, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
Leadership, development and organization of the services for which he is responsible in accordance with the business plans of the trusts. Liaison and communication with the Clinical Director of Respiratory Medicine, the General Manager and the General Manager.
Development of own interests and sub-specialties, including active participation in research programs.
Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of physicians-in-training, including approving and monitoring on-call rotations and locum appointments.
- GMC Registration
- MBBS or equivalent
- CCT in Respiratory Medicine (or within 6 months of eligibility at time of interview) or be on the specialist register
- MD or PhD
- CCT in general (internal) medicine, G(I)M
