Your role
Do you like new challenges? Are you enthusiastic, motivated and an effective negotiator? We are expanding our cannabis and ornamental plants team on the East Coast and have a Technical Sales Advisor role waiting for you! We work with our customers to provide technical sales and service for our organic products. You will be based in the Maryland or Washington DC area to serve customers there. You will spend part of your time working from a remote office and part of your time visiting your clients in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain assigned territory by visiting existing customers, direct marketing and acquisition.
  • Support grower success in crop protection by developing and implementing customized Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies in horticultural crops such as ornamentals and cannabis.
  • Build and manage customer relationships to gain a deep understanding of customer needs.
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities.
  • Expand the market portfolio using all of Koppert’s resources to turn prospects into customers.
  • Participate in the development and launch of the next innovations of the Koppert portfolio. Participate and communicate with the East Coast Horticulture Team as well as the National Team.

  • Ability to listen, ask good questions and build trust in your relationships with clients and peers.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced work environment and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to negotiate, arbitrate and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to write both technically and commercially.
  • Ability to work in harmony with other departments of the Koppert family.
  • Strong computer skills and understanding of Microsoft Office suite, CRM software.

Education and experience

  • Associate’s degree or above required. Degree in horticulture or agriculture-related field preferred; or equivalent industry experience required.
  • Direct experience in the agriculture/horticulture market as a producer or IPM staff member required.

Work conditions

  • This job works part-time on the road and part-time from a remote office.
  • Frequent business trips to visit clients, trade shows and corporate meetings.
  • Regular exposure to hot, humid greenhouse conditions during technical visits.
  • Regular exposure to bumblebees and other insects.
  • Long periods spent in front of the computer and on the phone.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to sit regularly for long periods.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
  • Ability to travel (air and ground) up to 50%, with minimal international travel.
  • Ability to routinely maneuver in and out of greenhouse environments.
  • Ability to withstand heat or humidity for periods of time.
  • Ability to control emotions under varying levels of pressure, stress, and fast-paced activity.
