Top analytics consultant joins Epstein’s department as full-time professor – USC Viterbi
Bruce Wilcox, an analytics consultant with a 30-year career working with large corporations and governments, has joined Daniel J. Epstein’s industrial and systems engineering department as a senior lecturer.
Wilcox has extensive experience working with leading companies in IS management and consulting, and now brings his invaluable expertise to a range of courses within USC Viterbi’s Master of Analytical Sciences program. School of Engineering.
Most recently, Wilcox worked for eight years as a senior account manager with the SAS Institute, a provider of advanced analytics software and solutions for data-driven decision making, where he consulted with government clients in California on the use of computer advanced analysis tools and solutions.
“After a long career in analytics consulting, I am very excited to achieve my long-held goal of transitioning to a full-time faculty position at such a prestigious institution as USC,” Wilcox said.
Wilcox will teach three of the program’s required courses, predictive analytics, data management, and data mining.
“I also teach an elective course I developed in 2020 – Enterprise Business Intelligence and Systems Analytics – which focuses on how large organizations use advanced analytics tools and management approaches to tailor analytics to big teams,” Wilcox said.
“I am particularly interested in collaborating with my new ISE colleagues to develop new techniques and programs for teaching analytics, and publishing new materials on the topics of Data Engineering and ModelOps,” he said. -he declares.
Wilcox received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and his master’s degree in computer engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University, followed by an MBA from UCLA and a Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Claremont Graduate University.
Prior to his position at SAS Institute, Wilcox was a director of systems integration firm Sierra Systems, founder and director of BLIU Consulting Group, and co-founder of management consulting firm Bluecrane.
Wilcox previously contributed to the USC Viterbi MS Analytics program as a part-time lecturer. Previously, he taught for twelve semesters at California State University, Long Beach, and was an international visiting professor at National Economics University, Hanoi, Vietnam, teaching two short courses in quantitative analysis to advanced finance students.
